As the days get shorter, the weather gets colder, and the holiday season gets closer, it’s not uncommon to feel depressed. We might come up with all kinds of logical explanations for why we are depressed: I don’t have any friends, I don’t have any money, nobody loves me, I am such a loser. The feeling of depression sinks in more and more to the point that everything seems dark, heavy and dreary.

Embracing sadness and other emotions through mindfulness practice or/and with the help of a therapist helps keep us from getting stuck in depression. And you might be surprised to find that depression can even be an opportunity for psychological awakening. The key is to approach it mindfully.
